This is a year in which we are hoping to help all our church family to grow in prayer. In my experience, it is often true that we nod our heads to the need to be prayerful but often don’t get around to it. Is that true of you? If so, why does this happen?
The Bible is not exaggerating when it says “our struggle is not against flesh and blood: but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens” Ephesians 6:12. In other words it is a real fight to even move to prayer. There will be many reasons, excuses or occurrences that will seek to deflect you. Other things like TV or games are so much easier to do. And yet real prayer makes a difference: it changes the way we look at life. And sometimes there are those amazing things that we see God inexplicably do.
So, it is worth the battle. Prayer is essential. So start today.
Try a little discipline to start with: go through the daily services in the Prayer Book, use some daily notes, make a journal. Give yourself a time limit and stick to it: even 10 minutes consistently makes a difference. And, all the while, remember that God is seeking you far more that you are seeking Him. I would love to hear of your experiences.
